How can I dress well for work
For the first three months or so, you'll probably be able to wear your usual clothes. You may have to leave the top button undone on your skirts and trousers, but you can hide that by leaving your shirts untucked. When your waistband gets tight, loop a rubber band through the buttonhole and then wrap it around the button. This will provide a crucial extra inch or two of breathing room. If you find your bust grows quickly during this time opt for loose tops or wear suit jackets open over a t-shirt or shirt to disguise your increasing bustline. Or you could just flaunt it! Then you enter the Awkward Zone. Although you don't really look pregnant, you're a bit big for your normal clothes, but perhaps not big enough for proper maternity wear.
It's a frustrating time, but you can get round this problem with:
• A few pairs of trousers and skirts with elasticated or drawstring waistbands in a size larger than you usually wear. • Trendy low-rise trousers that sit nicely below your belly. • A wrap dress that accentuates your curves and accommodates your bump in its various stages of growth. • Jumpers, cardigans, loose shirts and floaty tops. Long tops work especially well at this awkward stage, gracefully hiding your growing tummy without drawing attention to it. If you haven't shared your news with your colleagues yet, dressing in this way might buy you a little more time.
Once the word on your pregnancy is out, you may as well make life easier by dressing the part at work. You could try buying five items of clothing in similar fabrics and complimentary shades: trousers, a skirt, a jacket, a dress and a top. These can then form the basis of your wardrobe over the next few months and you can then mix and match these items with a few non-maternity sweaters and tops.
